Another Whitney

Thursday, June 29, 2006

Earlier this afternoon Anna and I met up with Whitney to do some portraits. I first met Whitney back in 2001 when she was a freshman in high school. I was working for the newspaper and we did a story on her and some modeling that she was doing back then. So if you are keeping score at home...she is now a college sophomore and I am old.

We started off at my buddy Evan's house where we used his old Ford Bronco to make a few images. We then went to a empty field adjacent to a rail yard here in Decatur. As with the shots I did of the other Whitney...I'm probably in need of a good tick-check. Either this means that I go the extra mile for my clients by crawling around in bad conditions or it means that I need to find better locations....not sure.

Bottom line though...I am extremely happy with the images.

I realize that these two are very similar...but...I couldn't decide which one I liked the best so I just decided to drop them both in here.

In case I haven't mentioned it I have updated my site. It still needs some work and fine tuning...but it's getting really close to what I want it to be.

I hope everyone has a great Fourth of July holiday! Keep all of our soldiers in your prayers!

Headshots for Nicole

Thursday, June 22, 2006

Nicole is a twenty-year-old theatre student who needed some headshots to use for some upcoming events that she is involved in. We hit a few places in downtown Decatur and had it taken care of in a little over an hour. If you don't count the fire ants that we got into during the last stop....I'd say it was a pretty successful afternoon. Oh by the way...the Summer season is all up on us....and by Summer I mean 90˚s of fury.

All of these were shot in the open shade with the white side of a gold/white reflector bouncing a little fill in the shadows from below.

Whitney -- All Natural Light!

Friday, June 09, 2006

I took some photos of my friend Whitney today at various locations
around town. It has been a LONG time since I have been able to shoot
this many portraits at this time of day. I was like a kid in a candy
store...everywhere I looked there was great light. Plus Anna has
really mastered the reflector....so she is to be thanked for a lot of
these images!

I was shocked at the end of the day to have made it through two hours
of continuous shooting without using any other light source except the
sun and a reflector. This is just another example of shooting great
pictures without a lot of fancy and expensive equipment.

Posting this photo reminds me that I need to go and check myself for
ticks....I was almost laying down in all these weeds and tall grass.

This transmission place downtown has recently painted there entire shop
this bright color red...I've been chomping at the bit to shoot some
portraits in their alley.

This is an auto shop on Bank Street that has a great open shade area
perfect for portraits.

I'm not sure why but lately I have been compelled to shoot these type
of images with almost everybody. Who knows...maybe I'm destined to
make a coffee table book called "Faces: From the Eyes Up".

I shot this one before we even left Whitney's apartment. This is just
outside her front door.

I should hopefully have more new stuff to come soon! Also look for
updates on my main site in the coming weeks. As soon as I can sit down
and give it about two hours....I will be making some pretty big
changes.

Thanks for stopping by!
