There are many things that make a man feel old....creeky knees....gray hair....etc...but nothing more so than taking the senior portraits of a girl you have known since she was tiny.

The Hays Boys

Friday, March 23, 2007

I was born in September of 1978...my buddy Andrew was born 3 months later.
Our parents are great friends so we were put down on the floor to play
together as soon as we could hold our big heads up. Well Andrew now has two
boys of his own. I went to their house yesterday to shoot some photos of
Braden (the two-year-old) and Cooper (the six-week-old).

At first Braden didn't really know what to think of me and the camera....he got used to it though!

It's a hard thing to describe but sometimes I will catch an expression or
certain look from Braden and I am immediately transported back to playing on
the sit-n-spin with Andrew when we were two. They favor so much it's almost
creepy. At one point Andrew pulled a book from Braden's bookshelf and
showed it to me...it was one of Andrew's books from when he was little and
now it is Braden's. I mentioned a set of books I used to collect and
Andrew said, "Yeah we actually have one of yours...it's got your writing in
it from when you were a kid"...now his two year old is reading it. How weird
is that?

Here's a photo of Andrew and I when we were pretty small...I'm the fashion victim on the right. Do you see the resemblance between him and Braden?
