The Wheeler Family

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

The Wheeler Family was another reschedule victim of my appendectomy. But...we finally got together with them and shot some family portraits!

These two little folks were cracking me up the whole time. The only way we could get little sister to smile was for Anna to hit me on the head with her flip flop. Anna took this as an opportunity to vent some frustration....how convenient.

Right before I took this next picture I thought I was going to be Mr. Nature and show the two little ones a turtle that had wandered into the field. Only after I had brought them over did we all realize that the turtle had...as Shane (dad) put it...."gone where all good turtles go." Yep...I made a special point to show two small children a dead turtle. Sweet dreams tonight guys!

There was no flip flop beating required for this smile....we had won her over by this point! The Higginbotham charm is a dangerous thing....thankfully we only use it for good.

Shane and Anora

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I had to reschedule many sessions while I was recovering from the great Atlanta vacation of '09.  Shane and Anora were one of those sessions.  Well I rescheduled them for the last week of my recovery period.  Mainly to help prepare me for full time work.  Anna was with me to help with anything over 15lbs...since that was my weight restriction at the time.  I was extremely excited to be shooting again....still am.

We ran around downtown Huntsville and swam through the humidity for their engagement session.

Cracker Barrell Front Porch Studio

Sunday, June 21, 2009

In keeping with my goal to better document my family I wanted to make a portrait of my dad this morning at breakfast. My family typically gets together on Sunday morning of Mother's and Father's Day to celebrate. Unfortunately I was working out of town on Mother's Day this year so Mom....I owe you a portrait!

Another reason I wanted to do this was that for the first time in my entire life my father has facial hair. It gives me hope that one day maybe I'll be able to grow facial hair of my own. My beard attempt would look pretty poor right now I imagine. Everybody needs beard hope.

Dad

Thanks for everything you and mom have done for me over the years....especially putting me through college! That's a biggie for which I know I haven't thanked you enough.

Happy Father's Day Dad!

I'm almost back at it.....

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Well I am almost recovered from my surgery. I have watched about 300 episodes of CSI (both NY and Vegas) and have looked out the front windows of my house almost as many times. I am thankful for the time to recover....but I am done with sitting around! Wow.

Tonight I was able to go watch my niece Kate at her dance recital. Now I rarely bring anything but a point-and-shoot camera to my family events. I know...that makes me a horrible person...but it's the whole cobbler's kids have no shoes thing. I have taken my camera to a few of my nephews baseball games but I usually fail in the "provide your family with good photos" department. Well luckily tonight I was so ready to have a chance to shoot something I went to the extra effort. Plus I am a sucker for good stage lighting. By the way...what is it about a disco ball? Those things are hypnotic.

This is my youngest niece Tess watching a few of the other routines while holding the flowers they were going to give Kate afterward.

...and here is Ms. Kate during her routine.

I tried to convince Kate that I had a little routine that I threw together last minute hoping she could find a spot for me. No such luck. Their loss....it would have been life changing for everyone in attendance.

The big finish....

I should be back to posting regular here soon. Oh and I am also available to process any crime scene if anyone needs me for that as well. I can't promise that it would hold up in court....but I'm certain I could do it!
